One β€˜new’ variant replaces the plastic thread by palm leafs. The result is a model in the classic shell form that really looks like the ancestor of all the colorful classics seen on verandas and poolsides since the 1950ies. The palm leafs are un-treated and therefore the most natural Acapulco chair there is.

Acapulco Chair at Makers Bible

Founded in 2015, Acapulco Design started offering the β€œAcapulco Chair” in its original form bringing the popular, handcrafted chair from Mexico to Europe. Constant updates in colors based on the original form were the doings of the first five years. There was already a free swinger model or even a rocking chair. Now, coinciding with the fifths birthday of the revitalized brand they now extend the range by yet evolutionary designs and forms.

Acapulco Design takes authenticity, quality and sustainable production seriously. That’s why managing director Benjamin Caja is involved in all stages of production in Mexico City (and by the way guaranteeing fair wages to the crafters). New design developments come from Europe though. While many furniture lovers have the classic chair in mind, it is worth looking at the free swinging models since they are rather made for dining. Dining will be the theme of the years to come: Right now in development is a dining table suited for the over-all look and feel of the Acapulco design range.

What do we buy? Who made it? What can we perhaps grow ourselves? How do our actions and decisions change, first ourselves, then our purchases, then the landscape?

The Revival of Sourdough β€” Sparking new Thoughts on Agriculture

Every sourdough – that culture of lactic acid bacteria and yeast in a mixture of flour and water – is unique, like a fingerprint, because in every region there are individual bacteria in the air that give each loaf its very own flavour. One person who knows more about the infinite variety of sourdough cultures than most – whose culture is culture, so to speak – is the Belgian Karl De Smedt, keeper and archivist of Europe’s only sourdough library.
